Presentation Time...
Earlier in the game, London Spirit Women posted a competitive total on the board courtesy of a fine knock of 46 off just 30 balls from Deepti Sharma while Eva Gray gave the finishing touches with a quick-fire cameo. Sophia Smale was the pick of the bowler for OI-W with a couple of wickets while every other bowler chipped in with one each and they were also fairly economical except for a few sets. While chasing, it was Lauren Winfield-Hill leading her side from the front registering her best score this season, while Marizanne Kapp provided the finishing touches to grab the important two points.
London Spirit Women, on the other hand, will be disappointed with their bowling effort. They kept the runs in check in the Powerplay, and then Sarah Glenn got them a big breakthrough. However, they were very sloppy on the field and dropped a few big chances that could have made the difference in the end. Danielle Gibson picked up one wicket as well, but it was just not enough for them. However, they need to quickly move on from this result and do their absolute best in their last league game to give them a chance of making it to the knockouts.
Oval Invincibles Women got off to a steady start and did not lose a wicket inside the Powerplay while scoring just more than a run-a-ball. However, they suffered a big blow when they lost their ace batter, Chamari Athapaththu right after the field restrictions were lifted. Skipper Lauren Winfield-Hill looked in good touch from the start and continued to rack up the runs while she also found good support from Birthday Girl, Alice Capsey. The youngster lost her wicket at the wrong time, but that did not bother the captain, and Marizanne Kapp also came out with positive intent and was in full attacking mode looking for the boundaries to avoid what happened in the first game. Hill notched up a well-deserved half-century, her first this season while Marizanne Kapp remained unbeaten on 30 off just 18 balls as they got the job done with nine balls to spare.
Oval Invincibles Women wins the bragging rights in the London Derby! They can say, that they remained unbeaten over their city rivals, London Spirit Women in the league stages. The Invincibles Women moves up to second place for now and this is a big win for them to strengthen their hopes of making to the playoffs.
