waiting Win Projections to be updated soon
Right then, that is it from this contest but there's still plenty of action to come in the BPL. It is a double-header day and next up is a contest between Fortune Barishal and Dhaka Capitals at the same venue. That game will begin at 6 pm IST (12.30 pm GMT) but you can join us for the build-up an hour in advance. Cheers!
Mohammad Mithun, the captain of Chittagong Kings is now down for a chat. He says that the hopes are alive to be at the top four. Adds that they have done well with the bat and the ball. Mentions that the wicket was a bit tricky and there was moisture on the wicket so the bowlers used that properly to great effect. Further mentions that the new batters were facing difficulties so one set batter had to be there and Emon was the man for us. Played slow but made sure he stayed there. Concludes by saying that there are two more games to go for them and their run rate is also good so hopefully they will qualify!
Haider Ali is the PLAYER OF THE MATCH for his match-winning knock in the end. He says that he is happy that he has won it for his team. Adds that they lost the wickets early on but he held on as he punched those bad balls which were in his area of slots. Mentions that there is a role for the set players and Emon helped him understand that they need just one over and should take it deep down to make it within their reach.
The Presentation ceremony...
Nurul Hasan, the captain of Rangpur Riders is up for a quick chat and says that they didn't do well in the top order and Ifti bhai batted well. Mentions that they didn't play well as a team and it is important for them to play as a team and get back to winning ways. Adds that they have only one match left in the league stages and they will look to get back to winning way before that. Concludes by saying that the batters around him didn't give Ifthikar enough support from the other end.
Earlier in the game, Mohammad Mithun put Rangpur Riders in to bat on a fresh track that had a bit of spice in it for the pacers. The Kings' bowlers did bowl well and even their spinners were able to pick up wickets regularly. Rangpur seemed to be huffing and puffing to a-run-a-ball total but some blitz from Iftikhar Ahmed towards the end took them over 140 runs which seemed like a defendable total. In reply, it seemed like a close contest in the first 15 overs but Chittagong Kings managed to muscle their way at the death and picked up the win.
Rangpur Riders were the top team in the competition for a long while but they have now suffered three losses on the bounce and are in slight danger of even letting go of the coveted top two spot. They started well with the ball with the two off-spinners bowling well against the left-handed batters. However, the quicks were a bit too aggressive and got hit away for runs and even though they picked up wickets at crucial junctures, the pace bowling was a let down and in the end, they have lost this one quite comfortably.
Needing 144 for the win, Chittagong Kings had the slowest Powerplay of the whole season with 29 runs on the board and lost a couple of wickets as well. However, Parvez Hossain Emon held up one end and forced the bowlers to push harder which allowed the likes of Mohammad Mithun to get in and get away a few boundaries. Parvez himself then started to find some timing in the latter half of the chase but fell in the 40s and it was Haider Ali who flexed his muscles and hit an unbeaten 48 off just 18 balls to seal the deal with 14 balls still remaining.
What a win for Chittagong Kings and they have knocked out Dhaka Capitals from the playoff race and have all but sealed a playoff berth themselves as well! That is sensational hitting from Haider Ali and it is a third-successive loss for Rangpur Riders and that could be decisive heading into the playoffs.
