Perth Scorchers beat Melbourne Renegades by 13 runs

Right then, that's all from this game. Perth Scorchers have registered their third win of the season and they now sit pretty at the second spot in the standings. On the other hand, the Melbourne Renegades continue to wait for their first victory in the competition. The action in the Big Bash League 2023-24 continues on Wednesday, 27th December where Brisbane Heat will take on Sydney Thunder. The game will begin at 1.45 pm IST (8.15 am GMT) but our build-up will begin much sooner. Cheers!
Josh Inglis is the Player of the Match for his brilliant knock of 64 runs from 44 balls. He says that it was really tough for the new batter to come and start hitting from the word go, both teams had a pretty good partnership in the middle overs but one of the batters had to continue which did not happen. He adds that we did lose extra wickets in the end which made us make 20 runs less but credit to the bowlers for bowling really well on a surface like this and defending this score against a packed batting side
Earlier in the game, after being put into bat, Perth Scorchers were rocked early as they lost both their openers inside the first two overs. Josh Inglis and Aaron Hardie got together to forge a solid recovery with a 120-run stand. Inglis notched up a fifty as did the newly appointed skipper Hardie to set up a solid platform for the Scorchers. However, Hardie's departure triggered a collapse as the Scorchers lost their last 5 wickets for 4 runs to be bowled out for 162. Tom Rogers stood out with the ball for the Melbourne Renegades with three wickets while Will Sutherland took three as well but was slightly expensive. Time for the presentation ceremony...
As far as Melbourne Renegades are concerned, they will be disappointed with this batting effort. While chasing 163, Quinton de Kock got going early and looked to be in the mood for a big score until he holed out. Coming in at number 3, Jake Fraser-McGurk was unfortunate to be run out early which is when Shaun Marsh took matters into his own hands. Playing in his first game of the season, Marsh was batting on a different level and did not let the struggles of Joe Clarke get to him. With 83 runs needed off the last 10 overs and 8 wickets in hand, the Renegades were on course for their first win of the season. However, once Marsh was dismissed, it all began to fall apart for the visitors and none of the incoming batters managed to get their side over the line.
You gotta take your hat off for the Perth Scorchers! Aaron Hardie and Co. have shown why they are the defending champions! A quality performance with the ball from the Scorchers and they have given their fans a post-Christmas present! With not a big total to defend, they needed to be on the money right from the start. Jason Behrendorff bowled a probing first over as did Jhye Richardson to set the tone. Lance Morris got into the act with a wicket in his first over but after that, it was a quiet phase for the Scorchers in the middle phase. Shaun Marsh threatened to take the game away from them but Morris got rid of him to open the floodgates. The rest of the bowling unit stepped up at the back end of the innings by using their smarts to seal the deal for the Scorchers.
