That's all from this game! A disappointing end to a game which could have been an entertaining one. The BBL action resumes after a 2-day break on Saturday, 19th December 2020 as Hobart Hurricanes go up against Melbourne Renegades. That will start at 1110 local (1210 GMT). Join us for that. Until then, cheers and take care.
The bowling from the Stars was decent. They started well but fell apart in the middle overs as their ploy to bring spinners in backfired as Joe Clarke and Colin Munro hammered them to all parts of the ground but Liam Hatcher got them back with a fine bowling spell. The spinners continued to take an hammering at the hands of Ashton Turner but they came back well towards the end to give themselves a chance. Rain kept the Scorchers innings to 158 for 6 before the target for the Stars was reduced to 76 in 6 overs. But, rain had the last laugh as it came down again and forced the match to be abandoned.
Perth Scorchers started well with the bat as Colin Munro and Joe Clarke were putting on a show after the wicket of Josh Inglis. Both of them looked good in the middle but Clarke and Marsh went in quick succession. Turner though came out with intent as he blasted the ball to all parts of the ground. He scored a fine 39 before he fell. That's when they lost their way. They kept on losing wickets and were set to be restricted by the Stars but rain fell and stopped their innings with just 17 overs bowled.
A sad end to a game which could have turned out to be a thriller. Melbourne Stars needed 76 to win in 6 overs after rain had reduced Perth Scorchers' innings and DLS method came into play. But just after 1.1 overs, the rain decided to play spoilsport and it returned to stop the game in its tracks.
Update 2011 local (1111 GMT) - Nicholas Pooran was coming out to bat but the umpires have stopped him and sent him back because it has started to rain again and the covers are coming on. As it stands, THE MATCH HAS BEEN ABANDONED!

Richardson strikes on the first ball and the Hulk has been removed. A lovely start from Richardson. A length ball, this one is pitched outside off, it jags back in sharply as Stoinis misses to work it on the leg side and gets rapped on the pad. A loud appeal follows and the finger is raised. What a start from Richardson here.
There is rain falling again in Launceston! They are continuing for now though which is a good sign. Jhye Richardson will bowl from the other end.

FOUR! He connects this time and ends the over with a boundary. 10 from the opening over. A length ball just outside off, Andre makes some room by moving towards the off side and then he hacks it through the cover region and it races away to the fence.

Swing and a miss! Length ball just outside off, Fletcher lines up and goes for a massive slog on the leg side but only connects with thin air.

Nicely done! Stoinis is off the mark with three! A fuller ball on the pads, Stoinis flicks it wide of the short fine leg fielder. Fawad gives it a chase and they take three.

Fletcher and Stars are underway! A fuller ball around middle, Fletcher flicks it towards mid-wicket and gets to the other end.
We are back for the chase! Melbourne Stars need 76 runs in 6 overs. There will be 2 overs of Powerplay. The Scorchers' players make their way out to the middle, followed by Marcus Stoinis and Andre Fletcher. Joel Paris will start with the ball.
Update 2146 local (1046 GMT) - Good news! It has stopped raining and the covers are coming off. It will be a shortened run chase for sure. It is a 6-over run chase and the game will resume at 2205 local (1105 GMT). The target for the Stars is 76 in 6 overs. Great news!
Update 2143 local (1043 GMT) - There is nothing much to update as it continues to rain and our wait continues. Keep your fingers crossed and let's hope that we get some play. Stay with us.
Stars were superb with the ball early on with Stanlake and Coulter-Nile bowling tight lines. However, the spinners were taken for a few by Clarke, Turner and Munro. Stars replaced one of their spinners with Dunk using the X-Factor option. Billy Stanlake returned before the rain arrived and got the wicket of Hardie and ended with 2/28. Hatcher in the middle overs got them 2 wickets on two balls to push Scorchers on the back foot. Part-timer Nic Maddinson too struck twice in his 2 overs. He was the one who got rid of dangerous Turner. The Stars did well with the ball before rain arrived to cut the innings short. Stay with us as we bring you the revised total.
Asked to set a total by Maxwell, Scorchers didn't start well as Inglis and Munro failed to get their timings right. Inglis eventually fell in the 3rd over but Munro along with Clarke added 49 in quick time with the latter being the aggressor. Clarke and Marsh fell on consecutive balls but Turner walked in and smashed 5 sixes in his 17-ball 39. Munro too got going along with him before getting out on 49. Scorchers lost a couple more in quick time before rain arrived.
