West Indies beat England by 8 wickets (DLS method)

Right then! West Indies go up in the series after winning the Opening game here. The series moves onto its next game to be played on the 2nd of November and it starts at 1.30 pm GMT. Join us a bit early for the game as we bring you all the pre match excitement. Till then, have a great day!
Shai Hope, the captain of West Indies says that the opening bowlers set the tone and they strive for early wickets and is happy with what they did today. Adds that they were much more consistent with their lines and lengths in this game and would want to be consistent going forward as well. Adds that Evin Lewis has been around for some time and he is hungry to get those runs and it was great to see him great a start.
England captain Liam Livingstone reflects on the game, emphasizing the importance of building a solid score in ODI cricket, particularly from a top-six batter going big. He acknowledges that while 50 overs offer ample time to set a competitive total, West Indies’ bowlers made that difficult today. Livingstone credits them for their effective performance and highlights Turner as a significant force, calling him a game-changer whose impact was clear to everyone watching.
Gudakesh Motie is the Player of the Match for his four-wicket haul. He starts by saying that the conditions were different in Sri Lanka as it was spinning more there and here it was pretty less. Adds that he tried to bowl a straight line and keep it simple. Mentions that the bowling from the other end was tight as well which helped him get those four wickets and he had a practice session yesterday where he looked to slow the pace down and it worked.
... TIME FOR PRESENTATIONS ...
Rain caused a delay, but once play resumed without any overs lost, West Indies’ chase was clinical. Openers Evin Lewis and Brandon King started cautiously, adapting to the wicket before Lewis unleashed his firepower. He hammered the English bowlers all over the ground in a blistering 94 off 69 balls, setting up a solid foundation for a comfortable West Indies win. The rain interrupted once again, cutting the game short to 35 overs with a revised target of 157 runs for West Indies. Both the openers went back into the hut and it was the pair of Shai Hope and Keacy Carty to bring the game home.
England’s middle order showed some resistance, with Liam Livingstone (48 off 49) and Sam Curran (37 off 56) building a 72-run partnership that gave their side a fighting chance. However, Gudakesh Motie’s spell turned the game on its head. With remarkable precision and spin, Motie dismantled the English lineup, claiming four crucial wickets, including those of Livingstone and Curran. His 4/41 from 10 overs made him the standout bowler as England was ultimately bowled out for 209.
West Indies have taken a 1-0 lead in the three-match ODI series after a commanding eight-wicket victory over England in a rain-affected encounter. Winning the toss, the West Indies elected to bowl on a tricky pitch, a decision that proved fruitful. England’s openers, Phil Salt and Will Jacks, managed a steady 39-run opening stand but were soon dismissed by Jayden Seales. Following this, Jordan Cox and Jacob Bethell added 40 runs for the third wicket, before Matthew Forde’s return to the attack disrupted the momentum, dismissing both set batters and leaving England struggling at 93/4.
